Within an organization, management is responsible for operations and the board is responsible for governance. One of the difficulties with this division of roles and responsibilities is that management and board are often uncertain or unclear about what is governance.

This workshop will examine:

• What is governance? Why is it important?
• Core principles of good governance
• Analyzing different governance models
• Assessing what kind of board you are
• Deciding what kind of board you would like to be
• Tools and strategies to implement good governance in your organization

Facilitator:

Priti Shah is a lawyer, mediator, arbitrator, investigator, facilitator and the owner of PRAXIS Conflict Consulting. She is widely known and highly respected for her work in the area of board governance and has personally worked with hundreds of board members from across the country. In addition to equality, diversity and harassment, Priti trains in the areas of effective communication, conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation skills, and board development. In 2005, Priti was awarded Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Contribution to Community from Women Business Owners of Manitoba.
